February news
2025 has been a busy year so far. We got through the Christmas period without too many dogs eating Mince Pies or Chocolate. The same cannot be said of the team, who have been busy finishing up all the delicious presents from our very kind clients.
February is Pet Dental Health Month. Dental problems are one of the most common reasons that both dogs and cats visit the surgery. Some buildup of plaque is inevitable, and some breeds are more prone to dental disease than others. Bad breath, changes in eating habits, drooling, and red and swollen gums are amongst the many symptoms of dental disease. If left untreated, these symptoms may lead to tooth loss, abscesses and systemic infection.
Most pets will require at least one dental procedure as they advance in years, but there are also ways to minimize and delay dental disease. Regular teeth cleaning is advised (if you need any top tips, we are happy to advise) as are regular check ups to identify early signs of disease. Dietary management and dental treats and chews can also be beneficial. There is an overwhelming choice of products available online claiming to improve dental health in pets. The Veterinary Oral Health Council has a list of approved products to help you narrow it down.

Church Street Vets, the new branch surgery in Stapleford, is coming along well. We hope to open in mid March. The branch surgery will complement but not replace the existing surgery. Clarendon Street Veterinary Surgery will continue to operate as usual, hopefully for at least another 60 years!
Church Street Vets is currently being transformed from an open plan office to a ‘state of the art’ Veterinary Surgery. It is significantly bigger than Clarendon Street, offering three consult rooms, a dedicated X-ray area (including dental X-ray) separate dog and cat waiting rooms and kennels and ten parking spaces. We very much look forward to welcoming clients and pets both old and new and will be having an open day later in the Spring. Please spread the word to family and friends!
With very best wishes,
Patrick, Harriet and all the Clarendon Street team.
